Overview
Sorry, currently we can't ship pines to California, Montana, or Hawaii.
Photograph taken December 2011. You are buying the pictured pine.
HxLxW: 10 x 6 1/2 x 5 inches (height from base of trunk)
Lower Trunk: about 1/4 inch.
This pine is grafted specifically for bonsai. It is grafted on Japanese Black Pine root stock. The root stock has been grown for bonsai so we paid attention to developing good radiating roots. The graft is as low as possible so that the bark will start corking at the nebari. It was grafted in October of 2010, grown in a 3 or 4” pot until April 2011 then it was potted into a 6” pot. We don’t recommend repotting until spring of 2012. While training it is best to keep it in a training pot, or in the ground, not a bonsai pot, to give it more room to grow and develop. It is a good time to wire the trunk and branches. We have a very limited number of these this year.
Taihei is a Nishiki cork bark pine. It is great for small to medium sized bonsai, truly a white budded gem. Nishiki is called by American horticulturists a Corticosa pine. The Japanese have named this the brocade bark pine. It is valued for its interesting bark development in a short period of time.
Trees ship Monday and Tuesday (Tuesday, only if they will reach their destination in 3 days)
