Overview

Morris Midget Dwarf Boxwood (Buxus microphyla ‘Morris Midget’)

Zones: Sunset Zone 3-24,26-34,39. USDA Zone 4.

Description: Very slow growing broadleaf evergreen. It is a dwarf but not as slow growing as ‘Kingsville’. Bright green tiny leaves and white contrasting bark make this a perfect little bonsai. It is very easy to maintain with minimal pruning..

Basic Care: Grows best in bright indirect light to part shade. Never allow root ball to dry out completely. Protect tree from direct hot summer sun and winter freezes. Pruning is typically done in spring and summer. When new growth reaches about one inch in length pinch back by half using thumb and fingers by giving a slight tug. Repeat as necessary until mid-September.

Feeding: Fertilize just before and during growing season until autumn. Many brands of fertilizer are available and it is beneficial to use a variety of these. Follow all package instructions.

Repotting: Repotting is best done in early spring and usually after two to three years of being in the same pot. Correct root pruning is very important and cannot be addressed in a line or two. Please refer to your favorite bonsai book or local bonsai experts.
